Description
Often depicted riding a leopard, Dionysus’ wild nature is represented by the strange and exotic. Some believe that the leopard is the embodiment of the polarities that Dionysus symbolizes, as they are both ferocious and luxurious beings… They are said to secrete an intoxicating perfume and to breathe the secret fire.
Holding his ceremonial Thyrsus staff, a symbol of fertility and earthly protection, he rides into a psychedelic void, made up of honeycomb sweetness.
A single bee lavishes in a flower, bathing in the ecstatic smells and pollen it lovingly provides. The bees are a beautiful symbol of this operation, in that they move between the outer world that blooms, and the inner womb of the hive, in a constant dance. They move between the worlds, much like Dionysus himself moves between the mortal and immortal worlds, between suffering and liberation.
Dionysus’ holy goblet catches endless waves of spirits, and yet it never overflows. With his eyes closed, he is the embodiment of spiritual mastery, liberated from fears and thoughts of what is and isn’t possible.
