The Moirai, also known as the Greek Fates, preside over life’s greatest thresholds— birth, initiation and death. Each thread is representative of a lifeline, stemming from the great Soul of the cosmos and the Source of all life on earth— the Sun, and cared for by the wise hands of 3 feminine figures…

Like working with the Cosmic Loom, the Fates dedicate themselves to the virtues and universal laws of Necessity and Divine Order. This links them intimately to the Virgoan traits of creating order out of chaos and their hand-work connotes paying close attention to the details that make a life so rich and meaningful.

Clotho is the spinner who brings new life into being. Lachesis is the measurer who marks that life’s initiations. And Atropos is the cutter who returns that life back to the heavens when their time has come. Like Virgo, they must be highly devoted to the details of each life line through their focused attention and critique, making sure to honor each individual’s fate as justly and carefully as possible.

The 3 weavers are also virginal— whole unto themselves, which is where the word “Virgo” stems from. This implies that they serve only the principles that satisfy their divine purpose and sense of fulfillment, in this case, the principles of fate and time.

The Moirai teach us that everything has it’s time, much like summer’s fruits must be picked and appreciated before fall’s cold embrace comes and they begin to rot on the vine. Time is of the essence.

The Moirai come to ask us, “What must be said, done, and experienced before my time comes in order to truly honor this precious human life?”
