Description
As the Buddhist goddess of Infinite Compassion and Mercy, Kwan Yin is known for her emotional intelligence and ability to transcend suffering, intimately connecting her to the zodiacal sign of Pisces. Known as, “She Who Hears the Cries of the World”, one need only to call her name in moments of hardship and be met with both relief and a greater understanding of the lessons therein, initiating the Great Work of unifying the divide between Self and Other, inner and outer, light and dark.
As a mutable water sign, one of Pisces’ roles is to transcend. Whether it is transcending suffering into liberation, or the mundane into the mystical, it’s changeable nature longs to find commonality by upholding the understanding of unity between all things, even apparent opposites.
The main focus of this piece is the yin yang symbol which Kwan Yin unifies further with her body; her head representing the seed of consciousness present in the dark, and her vessel representing the seed of the unconscious present in the light. She makes the Chin Mudra with each hand, a gesture that symbolizing the union of the individual soul with divine consciousness (index finger-Individual Self + thumb-Universal Self)
Kwan Yin does not discriminate between the suffering of the just and the unjust. She is wise enough to know that suffering gives birth to more suffering unless one has the Will to receive the support needed to end the cycle; transcending it. As a Bodhisattva, she vows to remain in the circle of reincarnation until the world ceases to suffer, making her the archetypal embodiment of compassion and worthy of receiving compassion herself…
Often depicted with a crescent moon, holding a vessel, a willow branch, and sitting upon a Lotus Flower, she is deeply tied to the Water element, upholding the power of both reflection and receptivity when it comes to healing and returning to unity.
This visual talisman is intended to invoke the spirit of Kwan Yin and the archetype of Pisces, promoting compassion and mercy towards both Self and Other, and reminding us of the power of both reflection and receptivity through one’s journey to heal.
